Resource Base

Welcome to our Specialist
Resource Base

The May Park Specialist Resource Base supports 24 pupils, in 3 classes who are in years 1-6 and have an EHCP for a primary need of Autism or Speech Language and Communication. There is a bespoke curriculum which educates the children at their stage of development rather than their chronological age. The curriculum is informed by both the Engagement Model and Early Years Foundation curriculum with a significant focus on developing communication and interaction skills for lifelong learning.

As well as classroom-based learning, the curriculum is also designed to support sensory differences; children have access to specialist sensory resources and a weekly Forest School session which is held on site in May Park woods. Resource Base pupils benefit from regular interactions from Speech and Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists.

While pupils access a tailor-made curriculum within the Resource Base, opportunities are regularly secured to enhance their cultural capital by including them in mainstream events such as performances from a visiting orchestra, on-site theatre productions and a hands-on zoological experience.

There is an emphasis on developing pupils’ independence in all areas. They have their own dining suite to support eating and dining skills, and a hygiene room to encourage independent toileting. Their play area allows staff to work directly with them to develop a range of play and social skills.

Through their time at May Park Resource Base, pupils will experience high quality learning opportunities in collaboration with their families, which will drive their progress from their individual starting points, helping them to achieve ambitious outcomes.
